In my previous article, we discovered what velaterapia is: using a flame to burn off split ends. Well, that’s not the end of it in terms of hair raising trends! This here has got to be THE most incredible way of cutting hair that I’ve ever seen before. Sure, every stylist has his or her own way to cut hair, but Samurai swords+Fire for a haircut? That sounds a bit much, doesn’t it?
Ok, so I came across this post from Hunffington post about a spanish hairdresser, Alberto Olmedo who uses swords for his hair cuts. Yes I was terrified for the person in that chair. But the Stylist put on such a good show with his skillful manipulations of the swords that my eyes were peeled to the screen. See for yourself:
Combining his swords, blowtorch and wolverine claws, he actually safely delivers his promise for a hair cut, albeit through a nerve-wrecking process. Whether or not torching the hair is actually destroying the hair is another topic of discussion.
So then I started digging deeper into this crazy technique and guess what – this is not a unique case of hair cutting Samurai style. Elsewhere, in Da Nang, Vietnam, a famous hair stylist, Nguyen Hoang Hung, also uses Katanas (Samurai swords) for this purpose. He doesn’t put on as much as show as the Spanish stylist but, is just as skilled.
This non-traditional way of cutting hair is quite something. Samurai swords are associated with ancient Japanese warriors. They are probably turning in their graves from the insult of using the Katanas for hair cutting!
While there is no proven benefit of using swords over regular scissors or clippers, many people love the thrill of this unconventional hair cut. The uniqueness of all this is why these stylists have received so much attention over the internet.
The question is: would you place your trust in the hands of a stylist with Samurai swords for a simple hair cut?
