Allure has released its list for the 2015 best products. In this post we will check out the Allure awarded shampoos and conditioners for dry hair, and determine if they are in line with customer reviews and if they are worth the buzz.
Best shampoos and conditioners for dry hair
- Smooth Sexy Hair Smooth Extender Mask
This here is a mask, which, simply put is a more conditioning conditioner. It is meant to be applied after shampooing and left on for 5 min before rinsing. The product receives a 4.7 out of 5 from 8 amazon customers and 4.7 from 15 customers on Ulta. You can find it here.
Note: As can be expected from a mask, it can make fine hair feel limp. So be conservative on your first try if you have fine dry hair.
- Dove Quench Absolute Shampoo and Conditioner
According to the manufacturer, this is a ‘3-step system to cleanse, nourish and treat hair, providing 4X more defined natural curls vs. non-conditioning shampoo. The conditioner absorbs quickly into the hair without leaving a greasy, heavy feeling, while increasing manageability for a smooth finish.‘
The products are meant for dry curly hair, and are specially formulated with Burriti Oil. Burriti oil is usually used in skin care because it is considered a very rich oil for sun damage protection and moisturization. It is rich in vitamins A, E and C. For hair it is said to strengthen and smooth hair.
The shampoo however received a rating of 3.7 out of 5 from 107 amazon customer reviews while the conditioner receives a 3.9 from 119 customers. One big complaint seems to be about the lingering fragrance smell.
If you would like to give it a shot, you can find it here.
- Shea Moisture Manuka Honey & Mafura Oil Shampoo
These are highly mositurizing products targeted for moisture thirsty curls, coarse/kinky hair, damaged hair etc. However, due to the nature of the product (containing so many oils and butters), it can make hair too limp. Dosage is the key. Sometimes over conditioning can make hair feel tacky or even ‘dry’ from lack of proper rinsing.
The shampoo gets a 4 out 5 from merely 3 amazon customers (4.5 from 11 customers at Ulta) , while the conditioner gets a 4.8 out of 5 from 6 amazon customers (5 from 2 Ulta customers).
You can find them here.
- Wella Professionals Enrich Shampoo and conditioner for coarse hair
Both products from Wella are equally well rated on amazon. The combo receives a 4.4 out of 5 from 63 amazon customers. Since the products do not boast of any ‘fancy’ ingredient additions they are clearly the perfect example of great formulation. The shampoo contains sodium lauryl sulfate (sls) which could be off-putting to some but, despite of that, the product has been reviewed as being great at moisturizing the hair among other things. The conditioner similarly doesn’t have ‘special’ additions and contains panthenol, dimethicone among the usual conditioning ingredients.
Note that these allure awarded products here are for coarse hair. Wella Professionals Enrich is also available for fine/normal hair. You can find the shampoo/conditioner here.
- Davines NouNou Shampoo & Conditioner for over processed hair
I have previously reviewed this line in color treated category of Allure awards. Since over processed hair is often also dry, the shampoo and conditioner fits in the dry hair category as well. These products are well rated for their enriching properties. Get them here.
